The Bullet is a tribute to one of my all-time favorite amplifiers, the Fender Vibroverb. The classic Vibroverb, produced from 1963-1964 and a favorite of Stevie Ray Vaughan, has become synonymous with Vaughan’s iconic sound and a highly sought-after and expensive piece of music history.
The Bullet, while inspired by the 1964 Vibroverb, has some distinct differences. The 15” speaker has been replaced with a Jensen N12K neodymium speaker developed for the new Fender Tone Master Series of amplifiers. Using the Jensen N12K reduces weight without sacrificing tone. The addition of rectifier tube protection diodes to the rectifier tube socket increases reliability dramatically. A surge resistor added to the standby switch eliminates switch pop and increases the reliability and life of the filter capacitors.
Some things need no improvement. The circuitry is still the classic AB763. The sound from this amp can be deep, warm, and chimey, or it can bark and growl with that classic Vibroverb breakup. The reverb is lush and full, like swimming in waves of sound.
The Bullet takes all the best of the iconic Vibroverb and puts it into a smaller, lighter, more modern package so everyone can have the chance to own a piece of history without the vintage price tag.
